PEREGRINE GEARBOX.

HELICAL 2nd SPEED TO N.221.3629.

We have carried out the following test on this gearbox on the engine unit dynamometer to give the 2nd speed loose pinion some high speed running.

All the running was done in top gear as under this condition the pinion is turning its fastest.

(1) Two hours at 3000 r.p.m.
(2) " " " 3500 r.p.m.
(3) Twenty runs of 10 mins. at 4000 r.p.m. with 2 mins. light between each run.
(4) Ten runs of 5 mins. at 4500 r.p.m. with 1 min. light between each run.

Between each test the 3rd. motion shaft was tried for freedom with the gear lever in neutral, and always spun freely. There was no loss of oil from the gearbox during the tests.

On dismantling the gearbox, it was found that both the hardened sleeve on the sideshaft and the bronze bush in the pinion, were in perfect condition.
