| To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Copy to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Der. (crossed out) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Edwards. Valve Lift Indicator. Fittings to Top Valve Spring Washers for Valve Lift Indicator - Bentley - LeC.5435. A test has now been run on the Bentley valve spring washer with the reed for the valve lift indicator. The preliminary work on the reed has been well justified as it has shown that in its present form it has a period at 3500 rpm. We send you herewith a marked-up print of LeC.5435 showing modifications to the reed to raise its period out of the running range. These modifications consist of making the reed in mild steel instead of brass and lengthening the fluted portions up to within 1" of the end of the reed. The final design of valve lift indicator also requires that the reed be lengthened from 3.250" to 3.625". Will you please unsweat the existing reed from the top washer and replace by the modified reed indicated on the marked-up print. E/PSN. Att:Print of LeC.5435. | ||
