RE. FUMES IN BODY, AND CRANKCHAMBER BREATHER.

With reference to your E1/G.19.4.21, I am pleased to note that your scheme for improvement in the above is now receiving consideration.

We are having several complaints from customers of this defect, and in one case, i.e. that of Mr. Claremont, we were able to satisfy him in this respect by fixing on a pipe scheme which was made experimentally, conveying fumes from the breather to the inlet of the carburetter.

As we are forced to overcome these complaints, will you please get Mr. Royce to agree that we use this scheme to deal with these complaints, which we are otherwise unable to overcome by the above mentioned scheme until such time as the new pipe scheme referred to in your memo. has been passed and standardised.

In view of the present complaints, this matter is rather important and we should be glad to have an early reply and settlement.

We would refer you to our report, copy of which was sent to you, EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/F14.4.21.

In dealing with a cure for this matter one must also realise that the pressure in the crankchamber is a point we should try and reduce if at all possible, the gas-tightness of the pistons being a feature which I do not think we can get any better with the present construction, than we are doing at present.

Apart from the fumes in the body, we also seem to be troubled with general oil leaks from the crankchamber.
