To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 4553a HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.27.2.34. We propose carrying on the running of the Bentley 1V. B.4 for a further 10,000 miles. A report is being prepared of the results of the last 10,000 miles. Briefly the results show that using the old standard brake lining we have practically used up the whole of the adjustment in 10,000 miles. Also during the test it was found that after washing the front brakes juddered. A report has been sent in on the thrust race on the axle. The following new parts have been fitted to the car - (1) Light alloy connecting rods. (2) Steering joints protected by metal sheath instead of metal covers. (3) Front and rear dampers to have hand control - can only be altered by adjusting each damper. (5) Rear brakes Standard Bentley M.R. lining. (6) Front brakes lined with special material submitted by Ferodos. (7) Clutch lined with R.A.D.11 Chemically treated to avoid slipping due to melting of the manufacturing ingredients. (8) Latest type instruments, speedometer and rev. counter. (9) Steel cage for pinion bearing in axle. The previous test was run on Brand's Ethyl, the next test is to be run on Shell to obtain comparative results on exhaust valves. The Aerolite pistons which ran on the last 10,000 miles test will be used again for the further test. We expect this car to start running again tomorrow. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
