1381 Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}19/E23.2.38 - 1 - Notes of Meeting between Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Monday, 21st February 1938 HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WRAITH. 1. Reference was made to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R18.2.38. For reasons stated therein it is felt that this car is slightly under-geared. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} asked that, when the car for him is sent to London, it should be sent with a pair of the larger wheels so that he and other people in London can try it with the present ratio and the proposed ratio which would be obtained by using P.III axle gears. 2. Ignition Distributor. This is referred to in the same report. The RR distributor has been sent to France and it is agreed that, subject to a satisfactory test in France, we should definitely go for the RR distributor on this model. 3. Oil Consumption. This is receiving attention on the test bed although, as mentioned in the same report, it appears to have now settled down to about 1200 m.p.g. 4. Petrol consumption. It was stated that this would be equally as good for equivalent bodied cars as a 25/30 if the gear ratio referred to above is increased. 5. Engine Mounting. This still requires one or two small modifications which are being dealt with. 6. Steering pivots. The trouble with these tightening up was discovered before the car left England. The needle roller design instructed for the first 12 cars is expected to overcome this trouble, but Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} pointed out that we must look out that this does not run us into some other troubles such as low speed wobbles. (Later-I think we ought to try to get a set as quickly as possible on to some of the Experimental cars.) 7. Piston scuffing. By reverting to the 25/30 piston and rings, this is overcome. 8. Third gear coming out of mesh. New parts will be running on 27-G-VI on the 24th February. 9. Car for Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} It was stated that this would be available by the end of February. | ||
