8-6135 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.6/MA. May 17th., 1933. Messrs S. Smith & Co.Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Electric Petrol Gauges. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Nicholls. We have had recently two failures of electric petrol gauges on our experimental Cars, one of these occurred due to petrol entering the float and causing the gauge to read falsely. We repaired this ourselves by soldering up the float and Hermetically sealing. The other failure occurred on one of our new Bentley chassis and was found to be due to the spindle being distorted causing the Potentiometer arm to leave the resistance wire in one place. This gauge was in this conditions when received have fitting to this Car and has never behaved correctly since it was fitted. We are arranging to return to you under separate cover this latter gauge, and as it is the only one of its type available we should be much obliged if you will have this repaired with all speed and returned to us by post in order that we may refit it to the Bentley chassis for further test. We shall be glad to have your remarks on these failures as soon as you have had the opportunity of examining the faulty one we are returning. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
