A121 3/20 CONTINUATION OF REPORT No. 192 On the question of Balloon Tyres, I think that our Mr.Macbeth has been in touch with you, and has given you the results of some of his tests, so that I need not deal very fully with this matter. However, it seems to me to need great care in making comparisons between balloon and ordinary tyres, because there are two points which have to be considered :- (a) That they run at low pressure. (b) That the walls are thinner than standard tyres. These two factors work in opposite directions, and their relative importance naturally depends on the springing of the car on which they are used. I am afraid we have nothing to tell you regarding percentage of alteration in wheel gather with balloon tyres, as we have no observations on this point. We are hoping to push our experiments further shortly, and if I get any results which are likely to be of interest to you, I will let you have them. Yours faithfully Development Supt.
