re-22-G-V.{VIENNA}

Confirming my conversation with you, I was not able to try the above car very thoroughly owing to adverse weather conditions, but on the whole I was very pleased with it.

The one point that struck me a little adversely was a certain bumpiness about the engine when starting up from cold, and when opened up to full throttle at low speed on top gear.

I am sending through some simple modifications to the machining of the head so that we can be trying out some alternative in which the compression ratio and forced turbulence are reduced. On the other hand this effect may be nothing at all to do with the cylinder and may be associated with the engine mounting.

I made a special test for cold starting by leaving the car out all night in conditions so severe that the windscreen was sheeted with ice the following morning. The starter appeared to turn the engine very heartily and after three ineffective puffs the engine got away nicely.
