Contd. -2- EPC1/T24.6.26. resistance of invariable value. It will be appreciated from these curves that the use of ballast resistance wire for this purpose presents the condition of maintaining the amount of the reduced output at the higher dynamo speeds. The lateness of the cutting-in resulting from the insertion of the resistance in the field winding would be of little consequence if inserted by means of an electro-magnetic switch of the Midgley type, when the system voltage had reached a certain figure, because in all cases, the commencement of the charging operation would take place with this re-sistance short circuited, and the early part of the reduced curve would not be worked upon. We hope to be able to give further information later on the ballast resistance problem generally, and more particularly as applied to the ignition coil with finer primary winding. EPC. | ||
