LUBRICATION OF CROSS STEERING TUBE BALL ENDS.

Reference to memo PN{Mr Northey}3/RT2.11.28.

The effective lubrication of ball ends is not an easy matter. The spring loading of both ends of the cross steering tube for damping purposes which was introduced about April 1927 did not improve matters from a lubrication point of view.

We do not experience trouble during production test, as the parts in question are well lubricated during erection, which lasts for a considerable time. This condition cannot be reproduced without dismantling. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and the Exptl Dept. are aware of the position, and in view of PN{Mr Northey}'s memo I will again take up the question with them to see if anything further can be done.
