X217. To H.S.) from B.Y.) c RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} E.2/HP.18.2.33. re 2nd Bensport's Experimental Car. We think the next experimental Bensport's car should have the bearings grooved in accordance with the designs made for series 2 Bensport's - that is - like Phantom, and additionally three holes through the crankshaft journals instead of one, to enable us to get some experience with this scheme. We realise that the big ends on Phantom 2 have not shown themselves to be as reliable as the 20/25. This is somewhat surprizing since the big ends Nos. 2 and 5 on the 20/25 have to rely for their lubrication on the oil passing by the remaining big ends augmented only by what can be picked up from the single oil supply holes in the grooveless intermediate bearings.
