1332 DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, PHONE, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: ERDINGTON 2121 (P.B.X) EXTENSION No. YOUR REF: OUR REF: FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM 24 July 5th.1939. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., Nightingale Road, D E R B Y. Dear Robotham, I received an India tyre to-day from your Company and presumably you asked for this to be sent for my attention. We have had a preliminary examination made and can find nothing abnormal in regard to quality and construction of the tyre. Is it possible that this tyre has been run on your high speed power consumption machine ? It seems to me to have been very greatly overheated, resulting in loose tread, and that the tearing of the tread is consequent upon the looseness. I am sending the tyre on to Mr. Worth for closer investigation. Since my visit we have been giving close attention to your tyre problem and we hope to be ready to offer you a tyre suitable for your requirements towards the end of next week. By that time we shall have a good deal of data to give you and I would like to have the opportunity of talking the matter over again with you. Would it be possible for Mr. King and me to come over to see you on Friday of next week, or if not, one of the early days of the next week ? I am sorry I have not been able to get a factor for converting power consumption on a 48" drum to power consumption on a flat surface. I think, however, that the difference must be very large. Not only is the tyre deflated to a greater extent on the curved surface, but it has to pass through a cycle of deformation in a much shorter time. We could discuss this more fully when I see you. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, A Healey ................. [DUNLOP LOGO] 1888 1938 DUNLOP 50 YEARS OF GROWTH | ||
