X1270 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Bentley. Excessive Oil Consumption and Over-oiling. I have received your memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/KW.31.8.36. Before writing my report on Bentleys I checked over the various complaints with Mr. Clark. Excessive oil consumption was not considered a complaint without 800 or 900 was considered excessive. There are several owners who consider 900 MPG is not sufficient, both 3½ litre and the present 4¼ litre. I did not consider it as a complaint. The history of last June's complaints at Kingsbury were 19 comprising. 9 rocker shaft wrong way. 6 valve packings renewed O.K. 1 Too much oil in sump. 3 Various trouble and made O.K. chiefly between 800 and 900 MPG. In this quarter so far there have been 10 complaints. 2 800 MPG. 5 rocker shafts wrong way round. 1 valve packings renewed O.K. 1 900 MPG. 1 was proved to be O.K. Therefore if you consider the 800 MPG as a complaint, modification to bores and ring will have to be made. Would you ask Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} why Kingsbury invariably measure the bores of regrinds .001 larger than they state. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. | ||
