SECRET. 5 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 4.11.39. VISIT TO BOLTON & PAUL'S RE GUN PROJECT. In company with Ve. we visited Bolton & Paul's on Thursday, November 23rd. to have a look at their range and to find out whether the gun would fit into their turret. We saw North who said that Messrs. Bolton & Paul were far ahead of anyone else with regard to turrets, and that if we would let them have full particulars of the gun as it now existed they would outline the modifications which they consider to be desirable in order to make the weapon conform to the requirements of turret operation. A walk through their Experimental Shop did not give one the impression that they were quite as advanced in large turret construction as Mr. North made out, but there is no doubt that they have done a good deal of work on the interior mechanism etc. We had a look at their range and took particulars of it. We think that we are now in a position to make a definite recommendation of what we want for a range and where it can be put. We will submit a recommendation to you next week.
