To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} X3900 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M29.4.26. PHANTOM SUSPENSION. X.8410 X.9410 X.3900 We understand that there was some doubt about the meaning of our telegram re. spring rating. We were going on R's telegram of the 23rd., saying it is absolutely necessary to determine the spring stiffnesses for 2" in either side of the neutral of the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I and the original 40/50. What we take it R.{Sir Henry Royce} means is whether the load deflection curve for the springs is a straight line or whether the spring increases in stiffness past the neutral position, and is less still below it, the object being to ascertain whether there is anything in OY's contention as to increased stiffness. We wired R.{Sir Henry Royce} some days ago pointing out that since the springs on the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I cars are selected until a 3.1 deflection is given in the neutral position, and the Silver Ghost similarly selected for a 3.5 deflection, the ratio of sitffnesses must necessarily be 124% regardless of any other consideration. We believe it is this point that he wishes to test. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
