R.R. 493A (50m) (D.B. 173 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -3- Expt. No. REF: with marks in case. Though scored it maintains the correct dia. as rest of shaft. Teeth on gears do not bed evenly along the whole length of tooth. Condition generally good. Water pump. Casing O.K. Bearing and gland bush worn .0015" to .002". Wood stop in casing worn .010" thus permitting the vanes on rotor shaft to foul the casing slightly. Rotor shaft is worn in centre - .004". Gland packings will require replacing. Oil pump drive shaft. Dial of shaft O.K. and O.K. to bushes in top half case. No appreciable wear. Clutch. Ferodo discs O.K. Clutch trunnion O.K. Clutch plate appears to have been rather warm (tempered blue) otherwise O.K. Screwed brake sleeve worn out at centre, probably due to engine being out of line. Mag. and Dyn. Drives. The fabric discs show signs of rubber breaking away from outer edge and a danger of fabric becoming ragged - Shafts O.K. Spring Drive. Dismantled - slight score marks in main bush. Condition of all parts good. Gov. Throttle & Water pump drive. Dismantled - no appreciable wear - condition of all parts good. Relief Valve. Seatings good - casing O.K. Body of valves had been reduced in dia. from drawing size. Camshaft and Intermediate Wheels. Teeth cross bedding, otherwise O.K. Controls. Wear has taken place in most bearing parts causing 'lost movement' to control levers. contd :- | ||
