COPY. CEM/EGH. Attention of Mr Bowering. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. January 2nd. 1936 Dear Sirs, Petrol Filter L.E.C.4721. In accordance with your Mr. Bowering's request we have pleasure to enclose our quotation for the above Petrol Filters, which we trust will meet with your approval. As explained to Mr. Bowering, we should not like to attempt to make this from sand casting as we have always found sand castings so unreliable. We have therefore based our figures on the body from a hot brass pressing. To enable a hot pressing to be used some slight modifications would be necessary to enable the pressings to leave the dies and our suggestions for these modifications are shown on the enclosed drawing. The stamping modifications are shown in sketches "C" & "B". "C" is only shown in one view, but the two supportingfeet are carried straight down to the body and not as in your drawing, which we have indicated roughly in pencil at the sides "C". Sketch "B" shows the boss for the draining plug filled in again to leave die. The above are the only modifications needed for the stamping. As we already have certain tools for the wing bolt on the stirrup we should like to keep to the same arrangement as you already have we think you will agree that this is better than fitting a separate steel stud as is the case in your sample.
