R.{Sir Henry Royce} Railton, Esq.,

Dear Railton,

We are rather interested in the axle control on the Railton with increased deflection front springs. I wonder whether you could let me have a few more particulars of exactly how it is fitted up.

If these torque arms were connected rigidly to the axle, obviously the axle beam would become a roll rod. We are not quite sure whether there are trunnion bearings in the axle or whether the torque arm is connected to the axle by rubber to give the maximum amount of free torsional movement. Does this arm add anything to the stability of the car apart from dealing with braking torque ?

Are you satisfied that Hudsons have managed to get a car with 5½" deflection front springs which is no worse for directional stability than conventional front spring deflection ?

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
