The following lubricants have successfully passed the mechanical running test of a hypoid geared axle without detriment to either gears or bearings.

2. "Gearo" manufactured by the American Oil Corporation, Jackson, Michigan. - A lead soap oil.

9. "Alomite Gear Lubricant" manufactured by the Alomite Company. - A lead soap oil.

The usual specifications of lubricants such as pour test, viscosity etc. were not investigated by us as these properties are settled by the axlemanufacturer.

If any change is made in the lubricants in order to change the pour test, a recheck should be made on the lubricant.

It is, of course, essential in any gear drive that both gears and bearings be of ample capacity and that the lubricant be free from any lapping agents.

TEST SPECIFICATIONS.

1. Drive Shaft - 1200 R.P.M.

2. Gear Data - 13x61 hypoid - 12" gear, 1 1/4" face, pinion 2" below gear center line.
