COPY. 42, Warwick Avenue, Earlsdon, COVENTRY. 1st. November, 1937. Dear Sir, As arranged at our meeting at your Works on Monday, 11th. October I am sending you herewith my suggestions as to the manner in which bodies for your chassis could be produced more economically than by your present arrangements, and at the same time give a more satisfactory job from a point of view of strength without sacrificing quality, for which it was understood your Company pay me a fee of £100. Appended on a separate sheet are shown four different methods of producing the bodies, giving the estimated die cost, the cost of the finished body shells ready for painting, and also the cost of the finished bodies. They are set out under the headings "A", "B", "C" and "D". "A" is for the all steel body shell and has a high tool cost. "B", which has the main parts all steel, i.e. front end, sills and centre pillar and the remainder of the body reinforced with timber, would, in my opinion, give a very satisfactory job without the high tool cost of "A", but it will require a larger floor space for production and a more expensive tool equipment in your Works. "C", which would be similar in construction to "B" but would have the main panels of the body produced by the semi-pressed method and finished by hand, would, as you will see, be far cheaper from a point of view of die cost, but the panels would be more expensive. The cost of assembly would Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
