To GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}

You will have received Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}' note with reference to 19-EX and Bensport.

We note your tests on the oil temperature. We have been getting some results on the test bed here which shew that the actual quantity of heat to the oil is exceedingly small. It is something less than 1/10th of the heat we have to dissipate in the radiator. We have various schemes in hand to cool the oil, one of which is a little radiator like the advert I sent you. We shall have some figures on this before I come over and I will bring anything that is likely to be some good out with me.

With regard to the petrol consumption, I will bring out some more needles with me, and we shall have to see if we can get a reasonable consumption. We are surprised at the figure being so low. We know that with partial throttle opening the metering is likely to be bad until the air valve lifts, but for full throttle work it should be quite a reasonable figure. Actually with the S.U. over here, driving as hard as we can we managed to get 17 m.p.g.

Booms. We are still anxious to know what this bad boom at 50 m.p.h. is, and which both E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} noticed. Is it the exhaust system?
