To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BJ. 48770 S E C R E T. R1/M1.12.24. EAC.2. X.8460 ENGINE. X.8770 Since it has been found that the special pump and stream of oil on the half time gears is not an improvement we have decided to cancel the second pump. The arrangement we are sending you consists of a relief valve box giving 3 supplies of oil at 3 different pressures, as follows :- (1) High - say 50 lbs. per sq.in. for the crankshaft bearings (see gauge strong enough), then - (2) Intermediates - say 5 lbs. per sq.in. for rockers, then - (3) Low pressure - 1 lb. per sq.in. for small jet on half time wheels. (4) Return to crankchamber. This should simplify the scheme and make it easy to get the right quantity of oil to each part, in order of their importance, and avoid an excess in the rocker case, and half time case. This does not demand any alteration to the crankchamber, and will be sent you today. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
