X684 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E4/M5.9.31. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}; J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. DYNAMIC BALANCER. We send you herewith LeC. 2946. shewing scheme for alternative construction of dynamic balancer. R.{Sir Henry Royce} would like you to patent this (independently of the two other dampers shewn on LeC. 2941.) in E's name, as he thinks it is a construction that we might want to use. The strong point of this design is the ease of assembly. As a rule assembling is difficult in a multiple spring damper, where springs driving in one direction are set up against springs driving in the opposite direction. In LeC. 2946. this difficulty is overcome by loading up each pair of springs separately with a driving jaw that is drawn into engagement with the serrated end of a spoke on the hub of the balancer by means of a stud and nut. Any number of pairs and springs may be used provid- ed{J. L. Edwards} the necessary loading action is obtained. The multiple leaf springs are retained in position by formed sheet metal retainers bolted into the construction. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
