Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 17th inst. We note your remarks re the couplings and that four of those submitted to us were not expected to give good life. On the other hand we tested 8 couplings and only 2 of those gave a life which we considered to be satisfactory. We therefore feel that before we can give you any production orders we ought to have 8 of the best couplings you can produce and which you would propose to supply us for production, to test and if our results show the necessary consistency we shall be happy to pass them as suitable for our production. We may say that we are getting a life from the coupling we are at present fitting which is comparable to that of the 2 best couplings which you submitted to us and therefore it is essential that we should not recommend anything with inferior performance.
