1360 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 11th. June 1938. The Associated Equipment Co. Ltd., Southall, MIDDLESEX. For the attention of Mr.Robinson. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 8th. inst. giving the information on your valves and seats, also for the samples received. The combination of Silichrome unstellited valve on a stellited seat we have never tried but will do so when the opportunity occurs. Regarding the analysis of your valve material, specification No.34 this is almost identical to the analysis of the Silichrome we use for our inlet valves. Like yourselves we have also tried to Stellite this material which results in the burning of the Silichrome causing minute cracks at the joint between the Stellite and the Silichrome. Other materials such as KE.965 and high percentage chrome steels, stellite quite satisfactorily. If you are interested, we could send you a copy of a letter in which we summarised our experience of Stelliting including the reason for pin holes in the surface which trouble you mentioned in your letter. Again thanking you for the information given, Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE | ||
