X9940 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. X9940/1 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LCG30.6.24. FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. The cars running 10,000 miles in France are having trouble with the brake ropes stretching. We shall get considerably greater pull in the ropes with a servo than we have had with direct pedal pressure only. We recommend that a simple arrangement should be made for taking the initial stretch out of the brake ropes before they are fitted to the car. It is very desirable, with our scheme of brake operation, to keep any slack out of the front brake ropes because as the front are operated by servo independent of the pedal, if there is any excessive slack, the brakes are liable to go on with a thump.
