| x263 To Ex. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Mg. C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Paris Trials Car. Van Vooren Body on Bentley Chassis. With regard to your memo Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}2/ES.19.7.35, I saw this car in Paris and drove it round the Bois. It is certainly a very nice job and shows very few signs of having run a large mileage. At the same time I should like to know if we have any information as to how similar bodies have behaved in private service. With regard to Mr Ward's report on the absence of ironing, it is difficult for us to comment on this until we have examined the duplicate body, but personally I think the fact that the body is panelled in steel instead of aluminium has a very important bearing on this point. The absence of what Mr Ward calls shudder to my mind is explainable by the body being more flexible and hence less likely to bring up periodic effects in the suspension. With regard to the remarks on the body mounting, this is another matter on which we shall have to defer comment until we have seen the body itself. It is notable that with these pillarless saloons a rubber bead is relied on to make the joint between the doors. We should be glad to know when you anticipate the duplicate body will be delivered.
