X.1413 Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/HyS/L13415. Re Letter from Mr. Crampton concerning Ignition Accumulators X.664. X.1520. X.1911 X.1413. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 13.4.15. With reference to Mr. Crampton's suggestion that we charge the ignition accumulators from the lighting dynamo by adding a further 4 volt accumulator to make this possible. This is not altogether desirable as it makes such a tremendous weight of accumulators, the only use of which is simply to work the coil. If an owner finds it a trouble to charge the ignition accumulators separately we have a scheme at present in the Experimental Dept. by which the ignition accumulators are done away with entirely, the coil being worked off the lighting cells. The experimental parts have not yet been passed but I see no reason why they should not be fitted if an owner so desires. It necessitates fitting an insulated 2-pole switch at the bottom of the steering column in place of the single pole switch, also a further small two-way switch. The coil would also have to be changed for a 6 volt one. The idea is that we use one half of the 12 volt lighting battery, and the small two-way switch is to enable one to use one half of the battery one day and the other half the next day and so on. A similar scheme to this has been used by us on experimental cars for a long time past but it had one Contd. | ||
