Letter reporting a severe car accident in France involving car 31.EX, resulting in injuries and a fatality.

| X1002 HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/I/JAB. 19th November 1935. To. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From. G.W.H. I regret to have to report an accident to 31.EX which has so damaged the Car that it is beyond repair. The front suspension is broken, the rear Axle knocked back, frame twisted. The Engine does not appear to have suffered very much. The top of the Body has been broken off completely. We have made arrangements to transfer it by rail from Buzançais to Boulogne -sur-mer and have informed the General Transport to ship the Car to England. Mr. John Berry English who was driving the Car escaped uninjured. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Pattinson who was in charge of the Car has received a fracture of the left arm, above the elbow. A Doctor was immediately obtained at Chateauroux and attended to Pattinson. Since then I have got in touch with Mr.Sleator who has arranged with a Specialist in Paris to attend to Pattinson's arm. He will be in a hospital there and have every attention. A cyclist, a man by the name of Mr. Nivet, 48 years of age was unfortunately instantly killed in the accident. We have reported the case to The Caledonian Company's Representative in Paris, who is sending down a Representative here to investigate in the accident. We have also, through Mr. Sleator, got in touch with the Firm's lawyer in Paris who is going to send a Representative down here. The County Judge took possession of J.B.English's passport and instructed that English should not leave Chateauroux. My Typist has been subpoened to attend the Court when called for.
