As we have previously pointed out, if this cam is removed with a screwdriver it is very easy to bend the spindle on which it is mounted. If this spindle is bent, the cam then runs eccentrically, which means that the difference in timing between one cylinder and another can be as much as 6° on the flywheel. This variation is sufficient to set up bad detonation. The material of the spindle and the cam has recently been improved, but we still think it is imperative that proper cam extractors should be used at all Depots. At one time many of these were in existence, but we believe at the present moment there is only one in the factory. Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please arrange for the necessary parts to be made, and instructions to be issued that these are to be used.
