Rolls-Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sir, We have received from our Associated Company, Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Birmingham one 12 volt B.2. CJ1 Regulator No.30655 which, we understand, was returned to them with the complaint that the setting of the second contacts was not correct and that the figures gave somewhat erratic reading. This regulator was passed to our Laboratory and, unfortunately, they report that the contacts have been dismantled and attempts have been made at adjustment, resulting in complete failure of the unit. To recondition this regulator it will be necessary to fit new contacts. In the circumstances we have had no evidence from the unit as to substantiate your remarks, but we are fitting new contacts, resetting and returning it to you with the minimum of delay. At the same time we would take this opportunity of enclosing our instructions for the setting of this type of regulator, together with some other useful data. It must be appreciated that an attempt to draw up instructions on an entirely mechanical basis is very difficult when dealing with electrical matters, but if the instructions are faithfully carried out, the setting will be approximately correct and only minor adjustments need be made, if necessary, to set the unit 100% satisfactory.
