HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FROM HDY.{William Hardy} C.c. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} GEARBOX CONTROL. We thank you for your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/KT5433., and results of the test on an engine oil pump. It appears from these tests that the gear type of pump will not be suitable for our purpose owing to the slip at low speeds at high pressures. We should however be interested to know how much improvement there is at lower temperatures, say 50°C. and 60°C., as it is possible that with the elimination of oil churning the oil temperature will be less on the epicyclic box than we get now. There will also be a reduction of temperature due to the use of a box separate from the engine. HDY.{William Hardy} Handwritten: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} / W.
