A.H. Risho Conference Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}2/R.2.1.37. POINTS REQUIRING ATTENTION. 1. Price's people are coming here on Wednesday next, the 6th. Roy{Sir Henry Royce} has invited them, and sent you a memo to warn you of the date. 2. Allen has rung up from Paris several times about the Trials' car which has now done 16,000 kilometers on white metal main bearings. His original information was that the metal in the cap half of No.3 Intermediate had broken up, and that the metal in the other Intermediate was cracked. As he insisted on fitting new intermediate bearings, we recommended that these should be replaced with white metal, and the other bearings left undisturbed. He has since rung up to say that on removing the crankshaft the top half of the centre main bearing was cracked and he considered it necessary to replace the shell. We had to agree to this. As he was in a hurry for the car to go to Belgium he asked our permission to send a set of Hall's metal mains which were in existence for that crankshaft. We, however, told him we would rather he stuck to white metal, and only replaced those bearings which were necessary. We ought to hear soon what he has done. 3. Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} has rung up from London to say that Barkers are ready for the Continental chassis. 4. No instructions have yet been issued for improved lubrication on P.III rockers. Cars are, apparently, leaving the Test Dept. doing an oil consumption of about 500 mpg., and Dodd says that GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s improved lubrication has increased the oil consumption of the cars in Experimental Garage. 5. No detailed drawings are yet through of the new Bentley front suspension. 6. The AC.1 main bearings on the engine for J.B.IV failed after a couple of power curves. Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} has instructed this unit to be re-built with cast AC.2 mains; if these will run satisfactorily 10 hours light on the test bed, a second set could be fitted if you still wish to send the car to France. | ||
