Dear Sirs,

Reverting to your enquiry of the 16th. instant, regarding hardened Piston Rings. These are purchased from The British Piston Ring Company, of Coventry, in the hardened condition; the hardness being between the limits of C.35 - C.45 Rockwell.

The analysis of material is said by the Makers to be as follows :-

Total Carbon 3.5% max.
Combined " .45 to .8%.
Silicon. 1.8 to 2.3% max.
Sulphur. .12% max.
Phosphorus. .8% max.
Manganese. .6 to 1.2%.
Nickel. .5% to .8%.
Chrome. .5% to .8%.
