TS/HTB/LP.{Mr Lappin} 20th September 1935. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Attention: Mr. Grylls, Experimental Department. Dear Sirs, As no doubt you are aware, we have received an enquiry from your Purchasing Department for a further quantity of eight 10" clutches to be supplied in accordance with our General Installation Drawing SK.30604. The type clutch on the above mentioned drawing is, of course, our 10A.3 embodying knife edge fulcrums and with which you have been carrying out certain experiments. This type clutch however is passing into obsolescence and it has occurred to us it would be to our mutual advantage to supply you with our latest ventilated type clutch, designated 10.A6, and for your reference we are enclosing herewith general installation drawing No.42850. You will appreciate that the outstanding knife edge features have been retained but that the clutch cover pressing is now made with slightly heavier gauge and the metal is formed around the thrust springs with a view to taking care of centrifugal force and which incidentally does away with the extra spring cups. Also the pressure plate is slightly heavier and a series of ribs are formed on the Gear box side with a view to assisting in air circulation. You will also observe that we have increased the number of spring stations with a view to reducing the initial stress and also possible set. This latest type clutch is definitely interchangeable with the A3 type and whilst same is a little more costly we feel sure you will agree to utilise the type embodying all the latest refinements. We shall be pleased to hear from you in this regard at an early date and also the writer would welcome Contd...... | ||
