R-R OIL RELAY GOVERNOR IGNITION.
X8680

Attached herewith are some notes in connection with the above. We do not know of any laboratory tests which could be made which would shew the oil relay scheme to be an advantage over the usual governed schemes.

We shall not get full advantage with this scheme until we get the cylinder head in which the two sparking plugs are situated at opposite sides of the head. If the firing of these plugs are then synchronised, we shall get definitely less detonation.

On the present EAC. engine, there is very little difference whether one fires on one ignition only or on both ignitions because the plugs are so close together. There is, however, a slight advantage when using both ignitions.

Two synchronised ignitions are not novel. For instance, the Hispano has always had two synchronised battery ignitions.

One advantage in our present scheme is that it enables us to use an English made magneto of proved reliability.

We recommend that you also get R's views on this matter. He promised, when we were at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, that he would write up the features of the EAC.
