ELECTRIC CLOCKS.

We thank you for your EFC6/AD18730.

(1) We want an electric clock at least ostensibly of British origin for use in our framed patch of instruments. We do not mind it being of foreign manufacture if a British one cannot be obtained, provided it has a British name. The Smith clock which was fitted by us for so long (Bezel wind) was made in Switzerland.

(2) We agree that R.{Sir Henry Royce} said that he approved of the arrangement of theinstrument board on 25-EX. (2nd. L.B. P. 2.), and we wish to standardise its equivalent for the R.H. car as soon as convenient. The changes necessary to the individual instruments are only small. The patch is not affected.
We do not agree that R.{Sir Henry Royce} wishes us to drop experimenting with a board with instruments having individual glasses as shewn on N. sch. 3106, already instructed, and we think that a car with such a board should be fitted up as soon as possible. This is future development work.
R.{Sir Henry Royce} was told that the framed patch of instruments is not satisfactory for the following reasons:-
(a) Dust gets into the instruments before they are fitted into the framed patch - the ammeter is frequently damaged by iron filings.
(b) To increase, or diminish, or change the instruments in the framed patch is a costly business.
(c) The patch is not easily made dust-proof.

We are sending a copy of this memo. to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, so that he may correct us if he does not agree.
