Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/HyB/C22713. July 22nd. 1913. EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. "B" _____________________ Weekly Report. _____________ Reports have been sent in on - X. 391 - Michelin 2 ton Jack "Verdeal" X. 2 - Double rear brakes (periodical report) X. 301 - Pressed steel silencer snout. Steering Pivots. X.168. File _______________________ As requested by Mr. Royce we will test on the reversal rig, a second pivot Y 3378, as soon as we can obtain one. We had a limited number of these and they were all used. This pivot is the one which broke off at the stub. I note that Mr.Royce suspects a flaw in the material at the point of breakage. If Mr.Royce is judging by the peculiar regular series of curved lines and the discoloured surface of the broken pieces, I should like him to examine the broken pivots sent to him previously and he will find the marking and discolouring of the surface very similar. All the pieces that I have broken by fatigue show these peculiar marks. When a pivot breaks in the U section the lines are always there and always of the same form. Double Helical Sideshaft Gears. C. 58. _____________________________________ These gears are still running, but still make a noise and so far are no better than our usual gears. The noise they make is a low grating kind of sound. They are wearing a little quieter with use. | ||
