Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/SM5/L19813. Re Valve Springs. X.290 D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} 19-8-13. We return herewith a batch of correspondence that was handed to us yesterday from your department, the covering sheet of which is D36/EF26912. The experiments referred to were done some considerable time ago and we therefore referred the matter to Mr Hives, who reports that the Valve Springs referred to were the first taper springs made E.2614; they were not exactly to the drawing. We tested them and got excellent results. Another batch was ordered to the same specifications but when tested they did not turn out any better than our then standard practice. Mr Hives says that it was suggested that all valve springs should be changed as a result of the first test being so favourable but the suggestion fell through after the failures with the second batch. p.
