x294t Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}4/R31.1.35. NOTES OF CONFERENCE ON SPECTRECodename for Phantom III HELD ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 31st. PRESENT:- Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that the Conference was called to look into the present position of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III and to bring forward any points which may require urging in view of the prime importance of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} stated that it would be very useful to look into the position as he was afraid that progress up to date is not as good as it might have been. He stated that there were several items of informa-tion which he requires before he can make further progress with the final designs and that his work is being retarded due to information on experimental tests not being provided expeditiously. He quoted the following items as being the most important ones at the moment and the ones on which he is in urgent need of information from the Experimental Dept. (1) Strap Type Connecting Rods. (2) Exhaust Manifolds - R.{Sir Henry Royce} asked on November 15th 1934 for sheet metal manifolds to LEC.4184 to be made up quickly and power losses taken in order to enable him to proceed with the final design and design work is held up until this information is provided. (3) Modifications to Bottom-half Crankcase. (4) Gearbox Modification to N.Sch.4298 to prevent Second Gear working out - Issued 14.12.34. (5) Braking Gear - Semi-servo Scheme with improved adjustment and less sponge - Issued 5.12.34. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that this item is very important. (6) Independent Front Wheel Suspension. Equal links, or unequal links, must be decided upon to enable design to progress. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} stated that he had issued a new steering gear of somewhat higher ratio than the Cadillac and it is urgently required that this steering gear be tried out in conjunction with unequal links. | ||
