Messrs Lucas Ltd.,
Great King Street,
BIRMINGHAM. 19.

For the attention of Mr.C.E.Robinson.

Dear Sirs,

Lucas LR.{Mr Ellor}7.T. type Regulator
No.LT.0884.

As received, this regulator had an open circuit regulating voltage of 17.0 - 17.8 volts, in the cold condition, the voltage being measured at the regulator terminals.

The regulating current at 13.0 volts was next measured, still with the regulator in the cold condition. This current was taken from the A.1. terminal, so that it passed through the whole of the series winding, and indicates the ability of the regulator to protect the dynamo in respect of sparking at high speeds. The current was found to be about 23 amperes, which was considered to be too high.

A slight adjustment was then made, resulting in an O.C. regulating voltage of 16.5 - 17.3 volts with a corresponding current, through terminal A.1. of 18 - 19 amperes at 13 volts. This, still in the cold condition.

Adjusted in this manner, the regulator was allowed to run with its cover on and warm up. It was found that the current at 13 volts gradually fell to about 9 to 10 amperes, at which it remained more or less constant.

This drop with temperature is excessive and has the appearance of being partly due to an alteration in the spring.

We should be glad to have your remarks on the above.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
