HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} 1028 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}3/R.17.6.37. ALUMINIUM DRUMS. As the result of various tests carried out by HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth} and HL., we have arrived at a more convenient heat treatment than the 70 hour soak at 170°C, which is at present specified for these drums to remove the tendency to grow after final machining. It is:- 6 hours at 170°C, followed by 12 " " 230°C. Will you please see that the drums instructed in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}1/R.3.6.37. have this treatment. May we have one of the castings (preferably a scrap one) for further tests, to see if we can leave out the first part of the heat treatment. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F.
