developing cast iron camshafts and arrangements are being made for some rig tests of a cast iron cam in conjunction with our valve gear.

(5) Development of Independent Rear Wheel Suspension Design.

(6) Test Ribbon Type Tyres.

The General Dual 10 ribbon type of tyre tread is claimed to give advantages of smoothness and adhesion over the more usual type of tread, and as this type of tyre is now available in the Phantom III size it is recommended that it is tried.

(7) Monroe Type Shock Absorber Connecting Links.

Shock absorber connecting links of this type are already on test.

(8) Exhaust Heated Induction System.

In view of the widespread use of exhaust heating for the induction system on American cars, and their insistence that this arrangement gives a quicker warm-up and less unnecessary heating at moderate speeds for the throttle, we suggest that we should test the exhaust heated scheme which has been designed for Phantom III.

(9) Percolation on Stromberg Carburetters.

Information was obtained of the methods which Strombergs have now adopted for their latest 1937 carburetters, to prevent percolation. These features are incorporated in the new Buick concentric float type carburetter which we understand Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is obtaining, but of course, are not incorporated in the Phantom III carburetter. It is recommended that we consider having these features incorporated in the Phantom III carburetter.

(10) Effect of Overlap on Cold Starting.

It was suggested that manifold depression during cranking had an important effect on cold starting ability. As manifold depression during cranking is influenced by timing overlap it is recommended that this point should be checked on our own and American engines.

(11) Synthetic Rubber Petrol Piping.

It is recommended that the samples of synthetic rubber
