Dear Mr. Hardy,

With reference to your letter of the 9th inst., I regret that I have not replied earlier on this matter but circumstances have been against me.

I note your remarks with respect to the Clutch Throwout Bearing and am of the opinion that the alternative first mentioned, viz. elongated cage holes, would be the most satisfactory.

Alternative (b) would I think be useless without the elongation of the cage holes, and further I feel that if the cage holes are elongated the further points in (b) would not be required.

As regards alternative (c), I can assure you that you will have very distinct trouble with noise, this not only being present when running light but also during the periods in which the clutch is out.

Under the circumstances, therefore, I hesitate to proceed with the preparation of the four bearings as requested, but in the course of the next day or two I will see what I can do with respect to knocking together one bearing only so that you can quickly try this out, and I am sure you will notice the points I have brought forward with respect to noise.

I note also that you are now situated at the Nightingale Road Works and will try and look you up in the near future.
