To D.A. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to E.H. " " E.F.C. X3310 RE 20 H.P. CAM FORMS. We send you herewith drawings Nos. LeC.1044/6/7/8 and 1050. The last two named shew the inlet and exhaust valve lift curves, and give the values for the cam lifts in the right hand columns on the drawings. The values for the exhaust have not been entirely worked out, and we should be glad if you would complete these for the shops when making the cam drawing. Incidentally, we should like to have them added to LeC.1050, so as to complete the table. Drawing LeC.1047 shews the inlet cam, and LeC.1046 shews the graphical determination of the minimum curvature (re-entrant) which gives us the information that the maximum allowable size of grinding wheel is 2.2". It will be found that the exhaust cam can be ground by rather larger wheel than 2.2, and it should be arranged that wheels worn down by grinding exhaust cams, should be trued up and then used for grinding the inlet cams. The engine timing is given by the diagrams on LeC.1044 ruled off by the red border. The information in connection with the shape of the valve lift curves should, in accordance with our usual practice, be considered confidential, and only selected persons should have access to it. Would you kindly arrange to have LeC.1048 and 1050 traced and blue prints for filing purposes sent to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. The ink tracing is not urgent if we receive prints from the pencil (Contd.) | ||
