Equipment Required for Experimental work on Gears.

Test House.

Test House, about 25 ft. x 30 ft. situated in a quiet part of the Works, i.e., away from Aero Test Beds, Single Cylinder Beds, Forge, and Pattern Shop, etc.

It has been suggested that the test house should be situated in the three storey building behind the canteen. In this position difficulty may be experienced in obtaining a sufficient degree of silence. It would be preferable to have an isolated building.

The equipment should consist of the following :-

Gearbox Work.
(1) One rig for testing the silence of complete gearboxes.
(2) One rig for testing the silence of individual pairs of gears.
(3) One rig for endurance testing individual pairs of gears.

Timing Gear Work.
(4) One rig for testing the silence of complete timing gear trains.

Rear Axle Work.
(5) One rig for testing the silence of complete rear axles.

General.
(6) Miscellaneous measuring apparatus.
