"CHASSIS 46-LW.
On testing out this chassis the battery ignition went dead me and on examination fault was found in the starter switch due to one of the contact screws being too long and earthing on the case. The negative fuse in the junction box blew and it was possible under this condition to turn the engine over by pressing the Klaxon horn button; the Horn being dead due to the fuse blowing.

The earth was cleared and a further road test was made of several miles, during which time the negative fuse blew on four occasions cutting out the battery ignition, the fuse blowing due to the heavy current taken by the Klaxon horn, a stronger fuse over-coming the trouble.

The system of fusing on the cars is by no means ideal; in all probability, you are aware of the arrangement of connections in the junction box, which is as follows:-

On the negative side the following connections are made:-

Starter Switch.
Klaxon horn.
Ignition Body lights.

On the positive side :-

Klaxon horn.
Body lights.

(Note) No provision is made for fusing the head, tail and side lights which are wired direct to the battery.

Contd.
