X.4338 - THE "GOSHAWK II" (See also R3/G21.11.21, R9/G21.112)

X.4783. With regard to the position of the electrical work on "Goshawk II", I understand that the dynamo is only short of the terminals, also the motor is not short of anything except the new starter switch, the switch that has been designed having been found unsuitable for foot operation.

X.4075. The wiring of the chassis we have not yet attempted, and were leaving until we had all the units right. It could possibly be done better on the actual chassis.

X.4081. The switch box is just being finished, redrawn to a smaller scale, and of simpler design.

X.4423. The space allowed for the condenser on the battery ignition tower is greater than the Bosch - see other memo.

Heaven help us if we cannot get suitable iron or steel for our electrical machines, even second rate quality will do. Knight & Crowden of Kidderminster was the firm from whom we got low hysteresis steel at Royce Limited. It need not be Swedish (Sankeys have several qualities that are quite good enough for us) Stalloy should not be used as we understand it is hard and brittle.

X.4383. The brush gear is the same for the dynamo as the motor, and the quality of the brushes for the dynamo has been specified.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}
