To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/ACL. c. to BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to EY. Handwritten: X3841 RR. F.10: CARBURETTERS IN THE VEE. Handwritten: X3933 X3932 We have now had the new RR. F.10. carburetters in the Vee running on a 6-cyl. F.10. unit, fitted up with the latest produced induction system LeC:2328, and carried out a few pre-liminary tests. The general impression we have gained is briefly as follows :- The distribution both at full load and throttled appears quite good although there still exists a slight tendency for the centre cyls. of the block to be slightly rich. This however is less marked than on any of the other systems we have tested and it is noticeable that the engine operates very smoothly and gives good power. At the present we do not anticipate experiencing any trouble with this induction system. The inward closing of the throttles seems a definite improvement on the Claudel carburetters, which operated in the reverse way, as this gives smooth distribution under throttled conditions. The petrol well formed in the idle running tube has proved to be particularly effective in giving easy starting from cold. We have not yet had cause to prime the engine which was always necessary with the horizontal RR: carburetters and the Claudel. With the existing size choke of 1.925 dia. the petrol level, as specified on the drg. of 1.2" below contd :- | ||
