5.10.23. COMPARISON OF GOSHAWK 11. & 40/50 HP. RADIATORS. Assumption for comparison. That the heat given out to cooling water per B.H.P. generated at 20 m.p.h. is the same for both engines. At 20 m.p.h. Goshawk 11. developed 21.5 HP. " 20 m.p.h. 40/50 HP. " 35 HP. (a) Correct ratio of cores to ensure equal cooling - is as 35 : 21.5 1.628 : 1 (b) Actual vol. 40/50 = 2332 cu.ins. " " 20 HP. = 1620 cu.ins. Ratio of Radiators by volume - 1.439 : 1 (c) Air passing through - 40/50 at 95ºF 1800 ft. per min = 19020 lbs/hr. Air passing through - Goshawk at 95ºF 1800 ft. per min = 15600 lbs/hr. Ratio of air quantities through the radiators respectively. 1.22 : 1 (d) Actual surface of core per inch of depth 1 cu.ft. of air tube core taken as having a surface of 170 sq.ft. :- 40/50 HP. 30.75 sq.ft. 20 HP. 1.182 sq.ft. Ratio of surface per inch of depth - 1.182 : 1 | ||
